This group is a stroke school. The focal point is having fun learning the basic mechanics of Freestyle and Backstroke. Emphasis is placed on balance and coordination in the water, learning how to listen attentively to coaches and following stroke instruction. We do lots of kicking to build up “the motor”; we introduce 2-3 basic drills for each stroke. Breaststroke and Butterfly drills are introduced along with starts, turns and streamlining skills.
- Swim 50-100 yards of legal freestyle and backstroke without stopping
- Kick 50-100 yards of legal freestyle and breaststroke without stopping
- Complete a legal flip turn
- Demonstrate beginning knowledge of butterfly and breaststroke techniques
- Push off and streamline to flags with dolphin kick
The swimmer would progress to the White or Junior Varsity with the approval of the coach once the swimmer has accomplished each goal, and is physically and mentally capable of succeeding at the next level.
